I. The protestant reformation produces puritanism
1. Luther declared that bible alone was the writer of gods word. He ignited a throw out of protestant reformation that spread its way to Europe.
2. John Calvin wrote institutes of the Christian religion. Calvin argued that god is all dexterityy and all good and military man were weak and wicked. No one was sure of their status to go to heaven. Conversion was thought to be an intense, identifiable personal endure in which God revealed to elect their heavenly destiny. They were expected to stretch forth sanctified lives, demonstrating their holy life becoming a visible saint
3. In 1530, henry VIII became the manoeuvre of the church of England. Some people, puritans wanted to purify the English Christianity.
4.  Many Puritans came from the commercially depressed woolen districts and Calvinism with its message of reassuring order in the divine plan, fed on this social unrest and provided unearthly comfort
b.     As time went on, Puritans grew increasingly unhappy over the heavy progress of the Protestant Reformation in England; they burned with excitement to see the church of England wholly de-Catholicized
c. All Puritans agreed that only visible saints should be admitted to church membership but the Church of England enrolled all subjects.



This meant that the saints had to hare pews with the damned and a tiny conclave of extreme Puritans, known as Separatists, vowed to break away entirely from the Church of England
d.  King James I, a shrewd Scotsman, was head of both the state and the church in England from 1603 to 1625 and he right away perceived that if his subjects could defy him as their spiritual draw they might one day defy him as political leader (in fact they beheaded his son, Charles I). James therefore threatened to wear out the Separatists out of the land
