Do intrinsic American Mascots Belong in Sports?
The Los Angeles Times article, Indian Mascotsâ€"youre out, authored by Jack Shakely, was written to inform readers most the strife over professional and collegiate sports team whose mascots use the inborn American name calling. Shakely believes that sport teams with Native American mascots argon hardened handle tempests in a teacup. Growing up of Indian descent, he has been against these mascots names for years. He feels that these mascots ch exclusivelyenge the dignity of all the Native Americans, when they run out onto the field acting like a village idiot. No one wants their heritage to be portrayed in that way.
Jack Shakely grew up in okay as a descendant of the Muscogee/Creek Indians. He grew up actually supporting the Native American mascots because he matt-up as if he should be loyal to his heritage. But after learning about his mothers fight against the Indian stereotypes, he understood the pain that it could cause. Shakely has written many essays, editorials, and articles, about Native Americans, which have appeared in many credible newspapers and magazines. His first off novel, A Confederate contend Bonnet, was about the Civil War in the Indian Territory.



He was also the former hold of the Los Angeles Native American Indian Commission. He clearly knows a lot of information about Native Americans, so he is very qualified to write about this subject.
Shakely made a clear argument against the use of Indian mascots in sports: the names of the mascots are not what is degrading; it is the way the way they are portrayed. The battalion against Native American mascots feel as if the teams are making them act like fools or savage cutthroats. The battle of Atlanta Braves mascot, Chief Noc-a-Homa, would come out onto the field, dressed in a Plains Indian chiefs eagle bonnet, and doing a warfare dance after every home run.
