Tuskegee

In 1932 The Public Health Service promised 600 black workforce medical care, meals, and free burial insurance if they participated in a study were they were going to be treated for what they called bad squanderer, a term used to describe several illnesses, including lues, anaemia and fatigue. Men were offer what most Negroes could wish for in wrong of medical care and survivors insurance and that was the reason why 600 workforce decided to participate. Out of the 600 men 400 were infected with syphilis before the study began and 200 were sickness free. What the participants did not deal was that there was no proven treatment and they were going to be victims of a study that was trying to find the long-term do of untreated syphilis in blacks, not in treating this deadly disease. For a period of forty years, from 1932 to 1972, doctors and public officials watched 400 men in atomic number 13 die in a scientific experiment based on unethical methods that could produce no new information about syphilis.
